Neurotoxins are injected into muscles to make the muscle relax and contract less strongly. In turn, lines and wrinkles on the skin overlying the muscle become smoother. Additionally, certain muscles become too strong, which can lead to a wider appearance of the lower face, bands on the neck, and even a downturned mouth. This can also be done using smaller amounts to prevent the way the face and neck will age. The effect will last up to 3-4 months.

Neurotoxins are also used to reduce sweating in various areas such as the scalp, face, underarms, hands and feet. The effects will often last from 3-6 months.
